Nathan Maertens

Vice President, Finance

Nathan Maertens is a seasoned strategic and commercial finance executive with over 20 years of global experience spanning finance, procurement, sales, and corporate strategy. As Vice President of Finance for Foodbuy Canada, Nathan leads all aspects of commercial finance, FP&A, analytics, and acquisition activities for Compass Group’s procurement and group purchasing organization. Under his leadership, Foodbuy has achieved significant financial milestones, including >80% growth in rebates and >4x the GPO profit growth in 8 years. 

Since joining Compass Group in 2008, Nathan has held a series of progressively senior roles across the UK and Canada. His international experience includes serving as Regional Finance Controller for Europe, where he oversaw financial governance and performance across 23 countries with revenues exceeding £5.4 billion. He also played a pivotal role in strategic planning, investment approvals, and the design of a new European operating model. 

Nathan’s career is defined by his ability to lead high-performing teams, drive operational excellence, and deliver tangible results. He is known for his integrity, humility, and passion for empowering others. His diverse background across multiple business functions has equipped him with a broad and balanced skill set, positioning him as a future senior leader within the Compass Group. 

Originally from Zimbabwe, Nathan qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2002 before relocating to the UK, where he gained experience in telecommunications, banking, and distribution. He later transitioned into consulting with Crystal Consulting, specializing in cost and profitability improvement, before joining Compass. 

Now based in Toronto, Nathan enjoys exploring the Canadian outdoors with his family year-round. A lifelong sports enthusiast, he is passionate about rugby and cricket and has recently taken up hockey.
